Squad-1/Duty Officer
SOG

1.01 Purpose
A) To provide a set guideline for the use of Squad-1.
B) To provide a set guideline for the Duty Officer program.

1.02 Safety
A) All personnel are responsible for the safe operation of this vehicle.
B) You are operating an Emergency vehicle, so yours and the community’s safety should be regarded at all time.

1.03 Policy
A) Members of the Kemah Fire Department should read and follow this guideline to the best of their abilities.
B) While this is a guideline, decisions will have to be made at each scene, and this SOG will help each Incident Commander to make decisions regarding his role at the scene.

1.04 Guideline
a) If Officers are not presently using Squad-1, then it may be used by other members for Department business only with approval by one of the elected Officers.
b) Officers will coordinate who will be using Squad-1 and when to go direct vs. to the station.
c) Must be an approved driver before able to use Squad-1. Members under the age of 21 will not be able to use lights and sirens.
d) When in possession of Squad-1, all calls must be responded too. If unable to respond, then Squad-1 must be taken back to the station.
e) When responding in Squad-1, the member must go to the station unless authorized to respond direct.
f) Officers and approved drivers are authorized to use lights and sirens for calls in Kemah if East of FM-270, North of FM-517/HWY-146 and South of NASA RD-1/HWY-146. When responding to mutual aid, the Officer must use his/her good judgment.
g) A sign out sheet will be made available for use of Squad-1. Time checked-out, reason and when vehicle will be returned will need to be written in.
h) Squad-1 or Command-40 must be made available for all out of town meetings and training.

1.05 Rationale
A) We will strive to perform our duties in our community using whatever resources we have and those from other departments if necessary.
B) We should always think of the safety of our community and to our personnel at all times.
